This image is from the artist Henri Matisse. He was born in northern France in 1869. This female figure that he draw is his wife and he gave the title “Green Stripe”. The reason that he gave this title is as we see in the potrait, there is a green line that separates the two sides of her face. Also, the green stripe line acts as a shadow line and divides her face in a dark and light side. This painting is one of his boldest colour images that he created. Matisse’s wife has an oval face. Her right side repeats the brightness of the green. On her left side, the lilac and orange colours, echo the colours of her dress.
Matisse uses several techniques in this potrait. He uses echo colours, dark and light colours to separate the two sides of her face, bold thick brush to give emphasis to some places on her face.
