This painting as we all know is the painting of Mona lisa who was created by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. This potrait took three years to finish. From 1503-1506. It is a half-length potrait and characterizes a woman’s expression whose facial expression is often described as ambiguous. It is an open painting because we can see the mountainous landscape at the background, the forest, the river and the dirt road.
Mona lisa is sitting on a chair with her right hand, holding her right left wrist and her right hand holds the arm of the chair on which she is sitting. The chair is parallel to the picture, whereas her torso is turned towards us and although her face might facing the viewer, her eyes are looking at the viewer’s right. She is dressed in the Florentine fashion and her dress seems to be plain black, with little brown in some places. Her hair falls down to her shoulders. She doesn’t wear any jewelleries.
Moreover, the viewer adores the painting, and the first thing that usually is noticeable is her smile. Her smile seems quite strange. The viewer doesn’t fully understand the true meaning of this facial expression. It might simetimes be worrying, sad, happy. We will never understand.
